Dr Motloung studied and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of the Free State, South Africa in 2007. He then did his internship at Ladysmith Provincial Hospital in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Boitumelo Provincial Hospital in the Free State. In 2010, he did his community service at the South African Military Health Services School of Engineering.
His benchmark year was in 2011, when he started working in and fell in love with paediatric surgery at the East London Hospital Complex Department of Paediatric Surgery. His new found love led him to start his training as a paediatric surgery resident in 2013, at the university of Free State.
In February 2019, Dr E Motloung established the Paediatric Surgery unit which renders services to the Mankweng/ Polokwane Academic Hospital Complex. He was appointed as a senior lecturer and head of the Department of Paediatric Surgery at the University of Limpopo School of Medicine, South Africa.
His academic interests lie in surgical leadership, teaching and innovation within paediatric surgery. These interests attracted him to the enrolment and graduation for a Surgical Leadership Program at Harvard University, US, in 2019 and graduated in 2021. He is currently studying towards a master’s of science in Medical Education at Oxford University, UK. His areas of surgical expertise are in thoraco-abdominal minimal access surgery, paediatric trauma and oncology.
Socially, he is always up for a challenge in nature and loves driving his Land Rover Defender off-road high in the mountains, riding his mountain bike in the woods and with his wit and sense of humour is found many-a-times enjoying dry red wine with his fellow sojourners.
