Dr Tsakane Rose-Mary Ngwenya was awarded to be the beneficiary of the Nelson Mandela Fidel Castro Medical collaboration programme. She trained to become a medical doctor in Cuba and at the university of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. She completed her internship in 2017 and community service in 2018, at Ngwelezane Provincial Hospital and Dilokong Hospital, respectively.
It is during this period that she gained interest in children’s surgical care, as well as treating and managing paediatric trauma patients. These interests magnetically drew her to her choice to becoming a paediatric surgeon. As a medical officer, she has since formed part of the phenomenal paediatric surgery team at Makweng/ Polokwane Hospital Complex in Limpopo province, South Africa.
Dr TR Ngwenya has highlighted interests in paediatric trauma, neonatal surgery, thoracic surgery, hepato-biliary surgery and minimal access surgery. She is reliable, diligent and outshines in her willingness to striving to being the best. Apart from her professionalism, she is an all-rounded Christian mother, who aspires to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children and communities. To let her ‘hair-down’ she enjoys hiking, travelling and reading books.
